Using off camera flash
Many of us complain about how harsh and flat the lighting is on your on camera flash, someeven produce red eyes. This makes it look more amateurish. To be more creative, you can use your flash to create dramatic lighting by remotely triggering it off cam.
One thing you will need is a trigger for your flash. If you’re on a tight budget you can get those cactus v2s / pt04 triggers, they cost cheap or you can opt for radio triggers which are more expensive, flashwaves/pocketwizards.
The more speedlights you have the more you can play with different lighting setups and use different modifiers to control light, but you can get away with really good photos even with just 1 flash.
Common positioning of the flash is 45 degrees left or right of your camera. Be creative with lighting as it can give you dramatic results.
Next one is getting a light modifier. This one depends on your taste, some like their lighting harsh to give a more dramatic feel and some like their lighting soft. I can’t explain to you one by one the different light modifiers being used but most common is a shoot through umbrella, this one is cheap and very convenient to use.
Try it with different positions and again be creative, off camera flash can be quite fun.
